Senora Rosa Bilou has been a HAFOTI member since 2002. After the disruptions brought about by Timor-Leste’s return to independence, Senora Rosa found herself bringing up her eight children by herself. Finding jobs is impossible for most women in the rural areas of Timor-Leste and so finding a way to earn money to feed and educate her family would not have been easy without HAFOTI.
Senora Rosa used HAFOTI revolving credit to open a kiosk in her village, Madebeno, where she sells essential goods and snacks made by HAFOTI members. Her business success has meant she has been able to build a new home for her family – and the education of her children has had a wonderful outcome, too. One of her children has made a great achievement, winning a scholarship for tertiary study in New Zealand.
